Stunning Supreme Court Decision

I had a wonderful weekend - I'll post some photos later in the week. Meanwhile, I found in my mailbox the following item of sufficient interest to share with you:

Breaking News: Supreme Court Gives Gore's Oscar to Bush

    Stunning Reversal for Former Veep

Just days after former Vice President Al Gore received an Academy Award for his global warming documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," the United States Supreme Court handed Mr. Gore a stunning reversal, stripping him of his Oscar and awarding it to President George W. Bush instead.

For Mr. Gore, who basked in the adulation of his Hollywood audience Sunday night, the high court's decision to give his Oscar to President Bush was a cruel twist of fate, to say the least.

But in a 5-4 decision handed down Tuesday morning, the justices made it clear that they had taken the unprecedented step of stripping Mr. Gore of his Oscar because President Bush deserved it more.

"It is true that Al Gore has done a lot of talking about global warming," wrote Justice Antonin Scalia, writing for the majority. "But President Bush has actually helped create global warming."

In another setback for the former vice president, a group of scientists meeting in Oslo, Norway today said that Mr. Gore was growing at an unsustainable rate.

"The polar ice caps may be shrinking, but Al Gore is clearly expanding," said Dr. Hiroshi Kyosuke of the University of Tokyo.

The scientists concluded that if Mr. Gore continues to expand at his current rate, he could cause the earth to spin off its axis by 2010, sending it hurtling into the sun.

"Here's an inconvenient truth," Dr. Kyosuke added. "Al's got to stay away from those carbs."

Elsewhere, after foreigners received a record number of Academy Award nominations, CNN anchor Lou Dobbs proposed building a 12-foot high fence around the Kodak Theater.

I think this whole thing (maybe not the spinning out of orbit) is about one degree from the possible.

This was a great satire on the whole thing.  It is very frightening what is happening to the climate.  The honeybees are dying and it was the warmest winter on record.  Einstein said tht mankind would eventually kill the honeybees and due to their not being able to pollinate the crops man would follow in their death march within 4 years.  I hope he was wrong....

Jorge, LOL... that was good.  Believe it or not I have a "highly intelligent (self proclaimed... and often preaches his beliefs) friend" who studies, almost religiously, politics and global warming issues, etc... he's an extremely staunch supporter of Bush (not MY fault).  He is constantly sending me pro-Bush and Republican propaganda in an attempt to "convince" me of his beliefs.  What seriously wigged me out, almost more than his other spouting of one sided silliness, was that he believes (and tries to produce documentation to prove it to me) that Global Warming is a stunt... a way to control the masses... how much gas is used and when, aerosol use, etc.  He seems to believe that if there were never humans on this earth the weather would be acting in exactly the same way as it is now... that this is the natural progression of things.  I don't see how ANYONE could come to that conclusion.

Loved this one!!
Our weather here has been very strange - so it is world-wide.  We did not have snow in Tokyo this winter for the first time since I came to stay in this beautiful city.  February was warm but when March came around, the temperature plunged and we are getting very cold days.
Hugs, Marie

Hi Jorge, Happy to see you back. Sounds like it was a fruitful adventure. The "Oscar" satire is WAY too close to reality. Thanks for recommending the Joan Didion book. I bought it before we went to Montana in June. I began to read it, but I could not get through it. While caring for Dean I could not concentrate. I'm a voracious reader but could not read. The Didion book was too close to what I was living at the time. I think it is now the right time to try it again. Thank you. Betty

Hi Jorge,
I have noticed that the wild fires have started early on the west coast.  That is frightening.  We are thawing out, the snow is dissipating fast and for the moment 50's - 60 degree weather.  But tomorrow wet snow.
I'm not reading as fast as I'd like the books that are stacked around me.  But it will happen even if I take them outside in the spring.
I loved the email on Gore.  I was quite happy that Gore got an academy award.  I have read part of "An Inconvenient Truth," and was quite impressed with it.  It is a very readable book and yes, the content is frightening.  Hope all is well with you.  Bittersweet

Very funny!  Powerful movie that Inconvenient Truth.  I had, unfortunately, believed the hype that it wasn't as serious as we were being led to believe.  Shame on me for not researching further.  But, for now, it's not to late to make a change.

Take good care,
Gayle

Former Veep - Teeheehee.... ; ]

I loved all the Latino references during the Academy Awards this year...and I always love when the one or two lone Cdn nominations make the spotlight - even if they don't always win.
