Creative Solution

Having finished blogging about our recent Bavarian odyssey, I felt it was time to change gears. My minister friend shared this with me recently. It made me smile, so I hope it will do the same for you.

Creative Solution

There were three country churches in a small Texas town: The Presbyterian church, the Baptist church and the Catholic church. Each church was overrun with pesky squirrels. One day, the Presbyterian church called a meeting to decide what to do about the squirrels. After much prayer and consideration they determined that
the squirrels were predestined to be there and they shouldn't interfere with God's divine will.

The Catholic group got together and decided that they were not in a position to harm any of God's creations. So, they humanely trapped the squirrels and set them free a few miles outside of town. Three days later, the
squirrels were back.

It was only the Baptist who were able to come up with the best and most effective solution. They baptized the squirrels and registered them as members of the church. Now they only see them on Christmas and Easter.

And my church brethren are such nature lovers, they'd be inclined to include the squirrels in the Sunday service or at the very least, the chorus lines the choir sings....

We don't have pets here at the Schmidt house and don't really need any - we have 50 or so squirrels in our back yard/green belt that call our trees and deck home.

PS - you need to add the RSS feed bar to be visible on your site so I can add you to my RSS. thx!

Hi Jorge,

I agree with Edie - the answer is fricaceed squirrel!  If those churches were in south Louisiana, there would not have been squirrels because the Cajuns and Creoles would have eaten all of them.  Actually, squirrel is very good smothered in the oven in a black iron pot with onions, garlic, mushrooms and red wine.

Jorge...

My mother, the clean freak, just discovered that she had a mouse in her front porch closet.  This sparked a two day cleaning frenzy that had her emptying out every closet, cupboard and cranny and scrubbing and reorganizing.  She live-trapped the mouse (well...ok...my dad did...) and then released it along the train tracks a few blocks from her house.  If she ends up with that mousie back in her housie, I will reccommend to her releasing it down the street at the Baptist Church.

How come I can always rely on such sage advice from you?  Very clever solution.

Jorge,  One tradition I still honor from my time in Germany is the Sunday afternoon walk.  This afternoon I shall be on the lookout for converted squirrels!  Rothenberg was a charming village steeped in history.  As ever be well.  Stephen

haha good one...Well, if that would work, I would baptize the squirrel that is wrecking havoc in my yard.  He has managed to come in and chew off the wirey rope that the long plastic bird feeders were each hanging on and has scratched all of the feed out of the little house bird feeder, and scared all the birds away...  Maybe I should go baptize him with the hose!!!!  Thanks for the chuckle... I needed it this am.. hugs, lottiemae

That is WAY TOO CUTE!  LOL!!  I live here in the middle of the "Bible Belt"... as they say here "yuh cain't spit a'thout hittin' a church 'roun he-ah".... or else "yuh woodun't chuck a stick roun' these parts fer fear a hittin' a church".  When I first moved here I couldn't understand ANYONE... seriously.  Now I have no trouble with the thickest back woods accents.  Oh, and by the way... no matter what religion here in the south... if they were natives, the solution would have been... Squirrel Stew... after all, God put creatures on this earth to be "et".  :)
