CHALK & STEEL

Every year the city of Pasadena sponsors a competition, where artists are invited to render in chalk on the local sidewalks an original or facsimilie of a known work. In conjunction with this event, people are invited to show off their antique or classic automobiles on the adjacent street. Since the price is right (free admission) and it was a nice day, we decided to avail ourselves of the opportunity. As in many similar spectacles, the audience is often more entertaining than the exhibit. This year, I would have to call it a toss up. However, since I have a policy of not posting photos in public venues without the permission of the subject, you'll have to be satisfied with the following photos of chalk and steel.

Although I am not a car enthusiast, per se, I can appreciate the creativity which goes into the restoration and maintenence of classic and vintage automobiles (years ago I helped a little in the restoration of a Model T Ford...). Once in awhile my beloved and I attend gatherings of classic cars and hot rods. There's always something for everybody. Of all the photos you shared with us, I particularly enjoyed the fire truck. My ex is a firefighter and I've never lost my admiration for the tools, gear, and equipment of the job. The kid in me loves fire trucks just because they're big, red, and can make lots of NOISE. As a watercolorist who spends a lot of effort attempting better ways to preserve the colors in my paintings, I shudder at the prediction of rain for those chalk artisits! Betty 6 月 28 日

Of course, if I had that talent, I suppose I could create magic like that whenever I wanted! It has been in my garage for the past ten years and I took it out to go around the block about once or twice in that period of time. I called the "Old Car Association" here and they might be interested but now I have to figure out how to get out of a tax that the government is trying to charge me. Every year in Costa Rica you must pay a fee called "derechos de circulación". It corresponds to your right to use the streets. They say that I was supposed to hand in my license plates in order to avoid this yearly tax and even though the car was not used, supposedly I have to pay. I love these "rules". They want to charge me $450.00. I'm going to put up a fight. You certainly are a very good photographer besides being a very good writer and I imagine a very good doctor. I am trying so hard to improve , however, I believe a new camera is in order. LOL. So glad you had the opportunity to get out in the awesome weather. I as well, have been doing the same. Am trying to take photos of some of the beautiful fountains the area has to offer. I am outside and enjoying the task at hand. Today was the PERFECT day in my opinion...Low 80's and less humid. I love old cars, used to own a four and loved how people turned their heads as I drove down the road all happy. I find that blogging has slowed down, I think because of nice weather.... hmm everyone is out having a nice time on weekends. The chalk drawing must of be wonderful ...... Well, just making a drive by on the computer lane... there are no speed limits here so I can do as I please... hehehe making illegal turns or not stopping at any stop lights hmm have not hit any bystanders yet My vehical uses no gas so is very ecconomical and it can look anyway my imagination desires.
